ITINERARY

Day 1 Johannesburg, Guesthouse (---)

Day 2 Masvingo, camping (BL-)
The Great Zimbabwe, or "stone buildings", is the name given to the twelfth to fifteenth century stone ruins spread out over a 722 hectare area within the modern-day country of Zimbabwe, which itself is named after the ruins. It is near the town of Masvingo, which before majority rule was called Fort Victoria. The word "Great" distinguishes the site from the many hundred small ruins, known as Zimbabwe’s, spread across the Zimbabwe Highveld. There are 200 such sites in southern Africa, with monumental, mortar less walls and Great Zimbabwe is the largest.

Day 3 Matobo National Park, camping (B, L, D)
The Park includes an Intensive Protection Zone where a large population of Black and White Rhinoceros are successfully breeding. The Matobo area has great spiritual and cultural significance to the local people and there are many sites within the park where important ceremonies still take place. Matobo National Park is also the site of the grave of Cecil John Rhodes. He is buried at the summit of Malindidzimu – ‘hill of benevolent spirits’. He referred to this hill as having a ‘View of the World’.

Day 4 & 5 Hwange National Park, camping (B, L, D)
It became the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi in the early 19 th Century and was set aside as a National Park in 1929. Hwange boasts a tremendous selection of wildlife with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded. The elephants of Hwange are world famous and the Park’s elephant population is one of the largest in the world. The Park has three distinctive Camps and administrative offices at Robins, Sinamatella and the largest one at Main Camp.

Day 6 & 7 Lake Kariba , Houseboat (B, L, D)
Lake Kariba is among the 4 largest man-made lakes in the world and the second largest in Africa. The shoreline is over 2 000 kilometers long. Kariba is home to numerous species of flora and fauna and is an exciting and unique safari destination.

Day 8 Victoria Falls, camping (B--)
The fall, known by the local Kololo tribe as Mosi oa Tunya- the Smoke that thunders, is one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” and one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls on earth.
